Impact of Product Data Quality on Return Rate

In this holiday season and gifts, the major concern of all distributors and brands is the management of returns.
These returns are increasingly costly for merchants who have to put in place advanced product returns management policies and organization.
The main and major reason for these returns is the poor data quality and description of the product (size and color for textile products, allergens for food products, photos that do not match the product ….)

To reduce this rate of return, it’s important to improve the data quality of your products through

  1. Usage of several criterias that will filter search engine
  2. Description the product explicitly and most comprehensively (explain, for example, whether the batteries are supplied in the case of an electronic game…)
  3. Association content photos, videos, tutorials, which will be adapted according to the visualization channel
  4. Sharing feedback from other users and product rating
  5. Providing a comparison feature that will be based on same criterias (as per point 1)

There are also other elements to give the 360° view of the product and which will contribute to improve the confidence towards the brand or the distributor (points of sale, cross sell and upsell, …)

A detailed and precise description of the product

  • decreases this return rate
  •  increases the satisfaction of both the buyer (his gift is good) and the one who received the gift (possibility of using it quickly).

And can even generate new sales thanks to the established trust with the brand.
